precleaner tip

I have searched and searched for a precleaner for my super c and unless I wan't to pay more than a hundred bucks for a jar type It ain't gona happen. So I came up with another idea. I found a K&N filter part no. RU-0360 that fit the stack on my super c perfectly and has a couple inches clearance to the muffler. I took a quart size folgers can and removed the label then primed and painted it to match the tractor and just put it over the top of the filter. It actualy looks like it could have been a factory thing on there so I guess I am happy. It sure does work though. I spent a small fortune on my engine when I overhauled it since it has firecrators and they were shot. I replaced almost everything with new factory parts. Needless to say I don't want to dust my engine and here in west texas that is a major concern! Now I don't get near as much junk in the oil bath as I once did , actualy hardly anything makes it there. It works so I thought I would pass it along.

Whatever works for you. Problem with K&N is that when you clean them, they have to be washed with water, dried and reoiled (time consuming for a tractor that is used very much). I only clean the one on my pickup about every 2 years -- Mfg claims they actually flow better slightly dirty, but mine does not see much dust. On a tractor that sees a lot of use, you would probably have to do that daily, or you are going to lose flow. I have also heard that they tend to let the fine particles through, so they need to be maintained--of course you still have your oil bath, which is better than a K&N, so you should be ok as long as you are not strangled for air.

I brought it in twice now and washed it and reoiled it in the mornig after it had drip dryed. It's not that hard. I still change the oil cup too after each day of use just like the manual says. I fully intend to get my moneys worth and then some out of my tractor.
