push pull switch question

The push pull (off-on) switch on our super M is very stiff. I tried several different things to loosen it up and nothing worked. I was looking through my O.E.M. parts book and found new switches for $46 dollars. What's so special about these? Do I have to use one of these or can a use a toggle switch.
Thanks,
Adam

I bought 2 of these from my Case/IH dealer couple of years ago. They came in Case/IH box and fit and work fine but do not look like original. The push/pull button is Black plastic and is marked Out/Run In/Stop think price was in $15 to $20 range. Someone at tractor show sometime later had dozen or so used original switches for $12.

Same story. I just removed the knob from the old switch and put it on the new one.

Adam, I purchased a switch from OEM, and it is like the original. Only problem was that the threads were stripped from the manufacturer, so I ended up buying a used one at a tractor show and swap meet for $20.00. There's not much that can go wrong with these switches except to break a terminal off or as in your case it becomes stiff. I wouldnt give up on yours if you can remove it and get some RPM on the shaft, it should loosen up. A $5.00 toggle will work, but if I were to compromise the original, I'd go further and install a key switch. They'll all work, its just what suits you best. You didn't mention whether you have a magneto or a distributor. The switches are different. The mag switch is a single pole switch that when in the off position, creates a ground from mag to frame, whereas the distributor switch is a bi-pole switch and breaks contact when in the off position. Opposite process to achieve same result.

How about a switch for marine application-boats.
Should be waterproof. Price?

If you are not concerned with originality, you can get a replacement at your local parts store. NAPA, Autozone, etc. has single pole, pull type switches for about $6. My Super H had one on it when I bought it - aside from the smooth, chrome button it looks/works just like the original.

A Toggle will work just fine unless you want an original. I put a toggle switch on my Farmall A.

Oem are more resistant to moisture and elements
can be shut off with foot in emergency without breaking Also it is easier for city folk to understand the directions are written on it. But in emergencys a push pull you dont have time to read just try to act

The one OEM sells (as far as I know) is an exact replacement, OEM probably had it manufactured for their company. So if you want an exact replacement get theirs. If you just want something that turns on and off, get whatever works.
