I recently got a 48 Cub in decent working order to restore. My wife has been using it around the farm to haul my small speader. The clutch pedal has lost its ability to return to the starting position(and engage the trans) without some upward pressure on the back of the pedal. It was not like this when I first got it. I have lubed the return bearing, checked the fluids and made sure there is nothing external impeding the movement. It disengages the trans, and if you sit and wait long enough, the pedal will eventually rise enought to engage the transmission if it is in gear and running.

This probably isnt your problem, but did you check to see if the spring is still there up under the floor pan?If so Id suspect the pressure plate.
