Ive been wanting a bigger tractor round here with a loader, live power, 3pt ect. I would really like an 806 but people seem to like to hold on to those. The local Case IH dealer has a 1256 with an IH loader. Ive just looked from the truck on the way in to get parts. Should I hold out for an 806 or look into a bigger 1256? Dont know much about them. Any suggestions or things to look for.

We like our 1256 with loader. Ours has a Farmhand 235 on it. We take care of our things, but a loader tractor always gets abused feeding in the winter. The only problems we have had with it are: clutch goes out about every 3 years or so, and about every 2 years it likes to start jumping out of high range (has some kind of ball and spring to hold it - this gets worn flat). Remember, this tractor is strictly loader use, so it gets shifted at least 15 times a day while feeding... Not to mention it loads about 1200 bales per year on the trailer.

DT407 engine is a good one, at least it has been for us. We used it in the field the first couple of years we owned it - would pull right with our 1086.

The 1256 was a very good tractor. My neighbor had 2 of them and now they wish they had not traded them. The neighbor on the other side of me bought one of them and still has it. You will probably like the 1256 a little more than an 806 but you will also pay more for it.
