If not, here are a couple pics and down below is a link to my original post last year and my interesting 'problem' with all your gracious help...

The tractor is almost ready to be put back together and I am now in a quandry over the loader...My sister and my Mom (original owner was my Moms' Mother) both want the loader back on...What I need now is pics (or drawings) of anyones home-made rails or channel work they have done to keep this from happening again...I would appreciate any ideas as I am trying to keep family peace...

PS...For those that remember, in order to move the tractor, we jacked it up and secured to halves with a plate underneath in order to get her onto a flatbed and transport to a friends shop...We did secure with chains and come-alongs from opposite corners crossed underneath just for good measure...Thanks for the suggestions!

Hi Guy,

Seen that a lot in our country; I've seen Ms and JD 60s split too. Damned heavy alfalfa!

Let me see if I can draw you up a diagram of the gussets we use up here. Very simple, low cost and works like a charm.

I've still got to put them on mine if I end up keeping the darned thing.

Hi again,

I've got a better idea. I'll get mine on and then take some pictures and post them to you.

In a nutshell it is this: The loader load is trying to push straight down right on the tractor center at it's weakest structural spot; that clutch area...just like what happened to your tractor.

What we do up here, is to either construct a fish plate out of 3/8" flat iron measuring roughly 10" square bolting it to the front of the frame rail using those three bolt locations.

At the bottom of that fish plate, clevis in a 3/4 or 1" threaded rod, to a bi-directional threaded tightening coupler, then another threaded rod back and anchored to the rear axle area. Tighten the coupler until there is tension on the rod pulling the front of the tractor towards the rear.

Or, depending on the tractor, I've also constructed these things by using 3" X 3/8" angle iron and just tying the underbelly of the tractor to "itself" front to back.

Just so that there is something under the tractor's belly, which is pulling the front towards the back so that those loader forces are countered against.

Kind of like an upsidedown bridge bracing.

Again, I'm not very good at explaining myself, but when you see the pictures, it will make perfect sense to you.

oops, No I would talk them out of the loader. I think you could run rails from the motor side frames to the rear axle to strengthen but it would not look nice. Do you have access to a larger tractor?

I have seen that very same thing happen, and with an H Farmall, although not quite as severely as yours, it still had to have the clutch housing replaced. The first thing I would suggest would be to find a different loader, that one in the picture looks like it puts the stress all in the wrong places, although the H that we had break in two was equipped with a McCormick #31 loader, so maybe it doesn't make any difference. We braced ours up by running a heavy shaft through the holes in the bottom of the belly pump, connected by a pair of heavy duty turn buckles up to the frame rails. I don't know if this helped or not, but we never broke it again. Of course we were much more carefull after that.

this looks like a project that started out to be a bad paint job.

Thanks for the encouragement...

And the paintjob was a work in progress that was pretty much stamped out (when the tractor broke in half)...

The sheet pieces that were completed were pretty good close up...Sorry if your screen can't see the fine detail...

It was at my Sisters' place across town...She owns My Grams' place where my Mom was born (literally in the 'front-bedroom')...Mom lives a couple hundred yards away now LOL

Next time you are this way, we will have to meet at Moms'...She has an amazing view of the Greens from just south of Mt Mansfield to south past where Sugarbush lift dumps people at the summit...She would have a good view of the Adirondacks also if the other side of the road was cut...

You need to get Mutt and Trevor over there. They'll make a view for you in short order. Probly all he'd want in return is the keys to your camp.

Get the view...

The problem is that we can't afford to buy the land across the road :-)
