I have a chance to buy a 544 with hydrostatic drive, and a 2000 loader, hour meter shows 2435 hours. loader bucket is very rough, seat shot, metal good. It is a 1970. Price is 7200. need info. would it be better than buying a new holland or Kybota?

You can get a Kubota for about twice the price. The MX 5000 is a 50 horse utility. Wouldn't own a New Holland unless the price was really right, even then...
I'm also not a big fan of hydros, new or used, but that's just my 2 cents.

Well, I will tell you what my Grandfather told me (he owned a 544 at the time of this advise 2000). He recommended I buy a kobota over an older tractor (such as the 544). They get great gas mileage, start almost all of the time, and are much safter. That being said a 50 hp kobota with a bucket and a hydro drive will run in excess of 20,000.

One key point is in 7 years you should be able to sell this Kokota for about what you paid for it.

That all being said, I own a I-544 (his). It works well for what I use it for (less them 20 hrs year). The I-544 works for me. If I were using it more, I would be tempted for a newer machine.
