I am receiving a 450LP-IH tractor for painting. Could someone explain the proper starting and shut down procedures for me. Our night temp is near freezing and daytime temp is upper 60s. I am not sure how long to run tractor on vapor and when to or how to switch to liquid. Any info would be appreciated. This is a new purchase for the owner and he is now sure of the correct starting procedures either. The delivery trucker indicates ractor runs good, he said he did not know much about starting this tractor, and I do now want to cause any mechanical problems. Any info would be appreciated.

On my 450LP, I open the vapor valve (mine's on the right looking forward from the seat), turn on the ignition switch, throttle lever all the way up (closed), hit the starter button until it starts.

I run mine on vapor all the time as I seldom work it hard. When shutting down, turn off the fuel valves at the tank and let the engine run until it dies. After it dies, BE SURE TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION or you'll run the battery down. Hope the painting process goes smoothly.

jal is right. I know farmers in OK wheat country that used to run them on vapor all the time, only feeding it liquid when plowing or pulling them hard. I wouldn't be concerned about liquid for light work or mowing, etc and especially for just running it around the yard. I have a 806LP that has the liquid valve disconnected, was like that when I bought it and as it is not worked hard I just havent fixed it.

Don't know about a 450, but procedure is probably same as the Super M (Factory LP) that Dad used to have. (Wish I still had that tractor.) Top & bottom valves should both be closed when tractor is not running. Open the top valve (vapor) pull the switch, choke it a little if its cold, hit the starter & it'll run when its ready to run. Ours didn't need a lot of choke. After its running & warmed up somewhat, open the bottom valve to feed it liquid & close the top one. If you are not going to pull it hard, you can just run on vapor for short drives-like moving it in and out of the shop.

If the process for a 450 is different, someone will post, I'm sure. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

I appreciated your comments on starting the LP tractor. I am glad to know I can run it on vapor as it will need to be moved around during the preparation for painting. THANKS
