I am going to look at a 300 utility today. Guy says it has live hydralics, live pto, and comes with a loader. I forgot to ask about a hitch. If it does not have a 3 point, does someone make a kit to convert it? Would the tractor need a fasthitch to make the conversion, or would it go on if the tractor just had a drawbar? What is this tractor worth? He wants $3000.

Bill:

Check the torque amplifier, too, if it has one. Along with the steering boxes, the torque amplifiers were the Achilles' heels on those tractors. The T.A. is also inconvenient (i.e. expensive) to fix if you can't bring yourself to live with it broken.

Did not get to see it today, but going tomorrow. He says it has the fast hitch, and he has the adapters to go to 3 point. I hope the power steering is ok. My neighbor has one with weak power steering, and it is tough to steer it with the bucket full. The thing that got me thinking about this is that someone mentioned last week that a 300 utility was twice the tractor of a ford N, at less money. I got a beautiful 8N, but it sure is a pain to have the pto and the hydralics stop when the clutch is disengaged. Live pto and hydralics and a loader may just entice me to sell off the ford, even though I have had it 20 years.

Bill The weak point of a 300 utility is the steering if it does not have power steering with a loader it's hard to handle be sure to drive it at full road speed before you buy it. If it has fast hitch all you need is two lower adapters that slide in the fast hitch the rocker shaft has place for the top link.

Bill, Worksaver makes an aftermarket 3 pt hitch for that tractor. HK-1107 I believe. I have never done business with them but have heard good things about them from others.
