Super A Starting Problems

Hello all again. I got the Super A put back together last weekend (new sleeves, pistons mainly), and had to wait until this past Friday to try to start it. After we towed it around for a while, it had yet to start. After checking the compression, timing, and making sure that it was getting gas, still no luck. All it would do is smoke a little and backfire once in a while. It is a magneto system. Any thoughts on how I can get the Super A running? Thanks in advance.

First off did it have spark?? Do you have the fireing order right??
Does it have spark now??
You said you have gas and compression but are the valves working , It takes air fuel and spark to make it run and all of that has to be on time.
Hope this helps some

You might try turning the gas off and shot some starting fluid in the carb at the same time you are turning it over and see if it trys to start, if it does you have carb problems and will probably need to rebuild the carb

Yes it has spark (have timing light). The Firing order is correct, and the valves are working.

Re-time it;bring No1 cyclinder up to TDC,you can feel this by putting a wire thru the spark plug hole for No,1; set your magneto to fire on impulse for No1 on the distributor cap and remount mag and time it acordingly; timing is 1 3 4 2, leave your locating bolts on the mag flange fairly lose so you can twist the mag to advance or retard the spark, when you get it running sweet tighten them.
If the timing gears haven't been unmeshed this should solve your problem,
Good luck.
