Hope this isn't too late! Had the same problem on my Farmall 200. Finally resorted to drilling two holes in the pulley inside the shoulder of the V, and outside the shoulder (back side) of the hub. Then a deep socket placed on the end of the crankshaft, a steel plate with holes appropriately placed to match the two I just drilled in the pulley. Put a couple bolts through the plate and pulley, and nuts on the back of pulley. Had to grind the flats on one side of the nuts to fit. Anyway, that made a custom puller that worked superbly. Used a air impact wrench - couple bumps on each bolt alternately until it walked the pulley off. Worked fine - I'm saving that setup! (Think the bolts were 5/16")

I just recently pulled mine off my 46 A, but not without breaking chuncks out of it first. I tried a gear puller and broke a chip, then I tried a bearing puller and broke a chip, I pumped it full of PB Blaster and even hit it with a propane torch and she wouldn't budge. Lastly I ordered a pulley puller (OTC679) and a monster two-jaw puller (OTC1035) from CarTools.com. I had to really lean on the wrench when I was turning the puller screw, but when it popped loose it came right off as easy as you please. The secret is to place the pulley pulling attachment behind the pulley, if you clamp it in the V you'll break the pulley like I did. I had to buy a new one!

Had the same problem on my Super A. After I broke the pulley off the hub, I found someone had welded it sometime before. I tried a huge puller with heat and still wound up cutting the hub off the shaft. Mine didn't even have the bolt in the end of the shaft. Just the interference fit held it in place. At least you can use the threaded hole to draw the new one back on. Yes it's a lot of grief to go through just to change that seal. NOT one of IH's better engineered areas. Good luck !

Mark,
The end of the crankshaft should have a hole with threads. I screw a bolt into the hole to protect the threads and use a "gear puller" and a "bearing separator". If you don't have a bearing separator, Harbor Freight has them. Use the bearing separator to grab the pulley hub and pull on it instead of directly on the pulley flange. Often the pulley will break before you get it off if you pull on the pulley flange. I usually apply a little bit of heat, not much just a little.
After you get it off you may find that the pulley has a groove worn into it by the oil seal. Repair sleeves are available. I beleive NAPA may have them. The other solution is a new pulley.
To install the pulley, screw a threaded shaft into the hole in the end of the crankshaft and pull it on with a nut. Of course clean and lubricate the the crankshaft and pulley. Again I warm the pulley just a little.
Just take your time and go slow. This is not a place for big hammers.
Good Luck,
K-Mo
