I currently have a Allis WD but am looking for a replacement. Would the H or M be closer in HP to the WD? I'm getting tired of riding the tractor with my knees up in the air, and the few M's i've driven seem to be very comfortable to run. Thanks for your replys, Brandon

That is the same reason why I never did like an Allis, plus the rough ride you got from those small rear tires.
I think an H will equal the performance of the WD. Maybe not as much horsepower, but because of the design of the H, it is better able to use the power it has.

Brandon,

I think a WD is closer to a H, while a WD45 is closer to an M in terms of power and features. Neither IH or Allis was considerate enough to include a seat back, but the H or M sure don't make you sit in that squatting position.

Between myself and my grandfather we have an H, 2 M'S and a WD. I have plowed and disked with all of them and I can safely say that a WD is a LOT more tractor than an H ever thought about being. I'm positive that if you replace your WD with a H you will be disappointed. My WD, with fluid in tires, will pull right up there with the M (WITHOUT FLUID). The H may be one of the most popular tractors in history but it was underpowered for its size and certainly is NOT half the tractor that the WD is. In my opinion, being a little uncomfortable while riding, pales in comparison to walking behind a team of mules. I have a lot of respect and admiration for those ole timers.

Ok jakee, I may have gotten a little excited and there may be a chance that my WD might have had the WD45 kit installed sometime in it's lifetime. When I bought the WD it came with a three bottom plow and just about everbody around here scoffed at the tractor being able to pull it and when it did I felt like I had the most powerful beast in the world! I have just been really pleased with my first tractor.

jakee,

I'd buy his argument if he has a WD45 or a WD with the 226 cu in "45" engine - which is apparently a common swap among AC owners.

In stock shape, though, a WD with the 201 cu in engine is Nebraska rated at 25 pto hp while a H was rated at 24. Close enough. The WD45 with a 226 engine is rated at 38 hp.

Reason I know all this is I went to an auction last weekend where they had a WD45 in "original" shape. I bid up to 1500 then stopped. They sold it for 2200 bucks. I'd looked up all the specs and figured the Allis WD45 would have more grunt than my H, but not as much as my JD60. (lest that starts an argument, the Allis is rated 38 hp at 1600 rpm, the JD is rated 40 hp at 850 rpm. Do the math and you'll see the JD has roughly twice the torque as the Allis). Anyway, I'd make a home for an AC WD45 if I can get it for about the same as I could get a nice M. That 2200 sticker was a tad higher.
