I've had a '47 "M" for about a year now and the single front tire recently went flat. What's the easiest way to jack the front end up for tire removal? Can I use a hydraulic jack if it's up high enough on cement blocks to begin with? I'm not used to the narrow front end.

i just changed a tire on my H, i drove the good tire onto a 4x4 and then chalked the back tires. this raised it high enough to get the flat one off.

PLEASE Don't use concrete blocks for cribbing!!! You may end up in the hospital, or worse. Use 6x6 wood timbers or something similar. I jack the front of my MD using the frame rails. Best to crib and jack on both sides.

A 3 ton or larger bottle jack under the clutch housing will lift the front end very nicely. However be sure to jack safely: Do it in a hard, level surface, block in front and behind BOTH rear tires, and lock both brakes. Also I'm not fond of using concrete blocks for elevating the jack (can break when you least expect). Instead crib beneath the jack with wood timbers - e.g. cut up RR ties.

Bob - the clutch housing is underneath about in the middle of the tractor and has a flat spot large enough for a jack, right?

Yes! It's flat area at the very front end of the transmission casting. If you start at the tractor serial number tag and trace down to the very bottom of the tractor you've got the spot!
