I've got an m&w live power pump I would like to mount on a 1944 M Farmall. Any one know if the cam gear is rugged enough to run it? Probably just moderate use, like once in a while. Also I have to rebuild the water pump on the same tractor. Doesn't look like I'll have to remove the radiator. Is that possible? It's got one of those heavy wide front ends with a full steel plate under it with no holes for access. Thanks for any advice. Winter is coming here in Northern Vermont. All 9 months of it!! Thanks again.

Thanks for the help on deciding about a live pump. I may just try it depending on the shape of the cam gear when I pull the cover off. If she calves on me I got a couple of Super Ms for backup, one with a loader. Stay warm and thanks again.

It might just work without changing the gears, but if you are in the middle of pushing some big snow drifts and the gears break, then where are you? As in all things, it is much easier and less expensive to do it right the first time.

We ran our M for years without any problems. Loader,2MH picker plow, and disc never had anything go wrong.

I've also heard that the cam gears were beefed up on the Super M and up, haven't compared one myself. I think the danger comes from trying to generate high pressures on the hyd system. To minimize your risk, 1) be wide awake when operating the valve(s) and don't ever continue to hold the valve open after one extreem of stroke on the cylinder has been reached; 2)Better yet, set the pressure relief to a lower setting. Most aftermarket valves come with an adjustable pressure relief that is default to around 2500psi. You can hear your engine load up when it's pushing against it. Adjust it such that you can lift your maximum planned loads, but it doesn't try to choke the engine out when at a limit.

Stan, Thanks for the heads up on the pressure. I have a couple of new Hyd. Gauges and It would probably help to use one. I planed to get a new adjustable spool valve. Thanks again. Dick in Vermont.
