I have an opportunity to purchase a fairly nice 656 Utility with a 282 turbo diesel for $5500. Everything seems to work fine, no smoke, good TA, new rubber, 3pt. w/top link. Unsure of year, but I would guess late 60's. Is this a fair price? Haven't seen many 656 tractors for sale. Is that because no one wants to get rid of them, or IH just didn't make that many. Thanks in advance for your help and advice. ROB

That seems like a fair price if it is in good shape like you describe it. Around here(eastern Nebraska) there were a lot of 656's sold but almost all of them were row-crop tractors. The utility version is very rare. Most people are hanging on to them now. About the only ones for sale are on retirement auctions.

Looks like a fair prices esp. with diesel and new rubber & 3 pt. Have seen several 656 utilities in our area for sale and they are a good tractor. The 6 cylinder makes a nice smooth running tractor vs. most utilities with a 3 or 4 cyl.

two of the ones i've seen for sale around here were gas and they were asking 6,000 and 7200 with loader so probably in the ball park the 1 for 7200 the loader needed more welding done to it than it took to make it in the first place i figured it should have lowered the value.
