I have to ask. Is there an easy way to put a new generator drive belt or fan belt on the Farmall 200? It looks like I either have to take apart some hard-to-get-at mount for both belts or practically dismantle the whole radiator and hoses to get those things off. I thought these things were supposed to be easy to fix in the field. Taking apart the mount looks like it would be easier, but not THAT easy, since it holds pullys for both belts and the cooling fan and I am not sure how to loosen the cooling fan belt tension. What is the easiest way and will I need any special tools?

Thank you gentlemen, I will give it a try. That bolt has not been off for at least 4-5 years (engine had new cylinders then) and has been painted over. At least it is not too rusty.

David: If that bolt on the fan hub hasen't been out for 10 years or more, they can be a pain. All the A and C and later tractors in the line have the same setup. They should almost be equiped with belts that only last one year. I have come across these with corners off nuts and seized. And yes have even had to take radiator off and disassemble the fan.

My 130 was a case in point, hadn't been apart in years. It was the one that I had to disassemble the fan piece by piece. Three years later the water pump went. This time everything was free, actually changed water pump, by removing parts Ray suggested. Fan belt was a bit shakey, but couldn't get a new one that day. The next week I bought a belt to have on hand. Two years later I replaced that belt without even removing any sheet metal. Just a matter of loosening generator and fan hub bolt. The belts can go on as you turn the fan blades. I've decided it may be just as easy to adjust the belt tension every two years whether it needs it or not. Probably a 10 minute chore every two years versus all day every 15 years.

Yes, you can replace belts without taking radiator, etc. off - it's not easy! If you can take grille off (3 large phillips head screws) you can get access to 4 bolts that hold fan shroud, and bracket that attaches radiator to front of engine. While not absolutely necessary to take shroud off, it helps. Look carefully at the fan. It is held on to a bracket which is part of the front of the engine. Fan is actully mounted on a bolt through the bearing. With the proper wrenches in front and behind the fan, this bolt can be loosened. This will allow the fan assembly to slide down, removing tension on fan belt. Depending on the generator, or alternator, and how it has been cobbled, you should be able to loosen it, allowing belt to be removed. With care, and dexterity, you can slide belts off around fan, and remove them. Reverse process for replacing belts. Install fan belt, apply upward force on fan to tighten belt - tighten fan bolt. Then use generator position to tighten generator belt.
