I am helping a friend with his W-9 mag. He took it apart with out looking to see where the rotor drive gear index marks were lined up. There is a R and a L on one gear and beveled teeth on the other. I have heard that the magneto on a W-9 turns bacwards from a H or M Farmall. So would it be correct to line up the L with the bevelled teeth? Seems like i lined up the R with the bevels on my H, but its been a while. Any help would be appreciated. I tried to post this earlier and it didn't show up on the board. So i'm trying again. Sorry if it posts twice.

Rod, Justin had the RIGHT answer for you. The W9s used a CCW drive magneto. The L on the dist. gear or L scratch mark on side should line up with the two beveled teeth on the small gear. Set points at .013" and you should be good to go.

CAnnot help with the timing, but just wanted to warn about the rotation. My WR9 had a distributor installed to replace the mag and it was wrong rotation. Cooked the rings and probably caused the head to crack as it retarded at speed instead of advancing. Seemed to run okay but not as it should. Will look in my IT manual and see if it says anything about the mag.

The beveled tooth on the small drive gear falls in the area marked L on the rotor drive pinion.

I can't give you the answer, as I am away from my shop manuals. My best guess is that the W-6 mag turns the same direction as the M or H, but you can easily check it out for yourself.

H and M magnetos turn clockwise when you face the impulse drive end, and you use the tooth labelled
"R", is in RIGHT HAND ROTATION.

Verify which way your mag turns, and go from there.
