I just got my F12 home on sunday and have found a number of broken parts that have me worryed about a cracked block, the top and bottom inlet pipes on the radiator are broken and the pipe that holds the air cleaner on is broken. Looks like water froze and broke these parts, I can't find any cracks on the block so I'm not sure if its cracked yet. Any ideas the engine is stuck right now and I'm getting ready to fill it as full as I can with oil since I won't be getting to it for a month or 2. Can I repower it with an H engine or is it to big. Any and all ideas welcome THANKS

i too have an F12....with the repaired block.....water jacket on the left side.as usual....i used good old JB WELD....works fine.
the manifold is available from rice equipment...
brand new....looks great..not rusted out like the junkyard ones. as far as getting her unstuck:try a mixture of oil and brake fluid in the cylinders...does the trick. parts are available like they say...and pretty cheap.
good luck.

Don't know about the brake fluid but any how I use turpentine and it has worked better then any thing else I have tried in more then 35 years of working on engines, not trying to put you down by the way. Had one the other day that would drag the wheels and 2 hours after putting turpentine in it was loose.

I tried your turpentine trick, left it in there for 2 days, it had no effect whatsoever. I will go back to using my blend of diesel fuel and brake fluid, mixed equally.

Well rusty was it the old type of turpentine or the new stuff that they call turpentine. The last time I went to get turpentine I had to go to about 12 places before I found any and that was the last they had and were not ever going to get more. I got both cases they had, the new stuff doesn't work. it has to be minearl spirts of turpentine not paint thinner

remember when Gasolene USED to clean parts??
or when paint remover actually worked??
i've even poured Coke in a block to get them to free up.that's got to be safe, right?
thanks for the info.

It's not the liquid but those magic words #@&*%$#@ you say when you are trying to start them.

Depnding on where the lower pipe is broke, you can get a rubber cap from Lowes or the like that you can cap the pipe off with the fill it with water to see if the block has been cracked, mos of the crack just below the manifold,or at least the ones Ive seen.It CAN be fixed if it not too bad.Mine has been like that since 1942 and hasnt leaked yet.I would tend to suspect that since both pipes are busted, they were either bustd deliberatly by vandals or kids, while trying to fix a promble or removing them,or the ice cracked those instead ofthe block.

Both places that are broken look like thermostat houseings but I haven't found any place to by new or used ones at this time. And I don't know if the block is broken, just figured it might be because of the other pieces being broken.
I have the F12 in a shel filled with oil till I get the 35 JD-B out the F12 will be going in, in about a month I just have to finish the JD first.

Nope, not thermostat housings. Just castings. No thermostat on this machine.

You can get all this stuff from parts tractors. Just be patient and keep watching the want ads on this site. There is one today in the photo section from a guy with a couple F12/14s he is parting out.

The manifold will be the biggest pain. New ones are $200 as you said, while used ones are, well, used. Very used.

Give a call to Gordon Rice, too. He runs Rice Equipment out of Pa. and has tons of stuff for F series and the other old Farmalls.

I've got a F14 with a welded water jacket. Its been that for over 50 years. I wouldn't give up on it yet. F12/14's are plentiful, most parts readily available, and as parts go, pretty reasonable.

I'm not giveing up on it yet, I also have a problem with the intake and exhaust manifold being bad. Both have rusted out. Wheres some where to find them or do I need to pay the $200 for the ones I found new. Where they bad about this or did I get one that was not well cared for??
Right now I have a 35 JD-B in the shop, but I'm just about finished with it so the F12 will go there in a month or so

there is a raised part in the water jacket along the side that will split. I have got f12 engines running that were stuck pretty bad so don't give up hope too soon. I have a block that has been welded. can you take some closeup pics?
