My Lift all works well when first used (cold). After a while when it warms up it begins to fail and won't lift impliments all the way (part way). It holds impliments up with out droping. I use 30wt oil. What could it be? Can I use a different wt oil?

Thanks in advance,
Mark

go to your harvester dealer, they make a over-haul kit it run,s around 100.00 it will be a bunch of small parts you can hold in 1 hand tear it down put in the new part,s and it will work great , i have a old super H with a horn loader on it and we pick up around 1300 lb,s with it all the time, we use the tractor for junking out car,s

Get a hydraulic pressure gage and plumb it into your lift line. A cheap gage is only around $15. You should be getting 800 psi if you have a good unit and it should not change much as the oil gets hot. If you are using 30 wt oil and you are not maintaining pressure, then your pump must be worn. The fact that implements hold is good and sounds like you should have a good system. If you are talking about a 3 point hitch, then just change out the cylinder for one same length, but larger diameter and that should take care of it.

It is a three point I'm using single cylinder. and I'll try the pressure check.

Thanks

I should have pointed out that the system will only develop the pressure required to lift the implement. To check maximum pressure, you will have to lift to the end of the travel of the cylinder, or disconnect the cylinder hose and just put the gage in the connection so the fluid has no place to go.

I did use 30wt non detergent oil. What else could it be.

Thanks,
Mark

It sounds like the first thing to do would be to drain out all of the oil, and replace it with new 30wt. non-detergent. I want to emphasize NON-detergent. Detergent type oil will foam in the lift-all, and foam will not lift anything.

i must be the luckiest guy in the world because i have farmed on my own for thirtyone years and i have never used anything but the same detergent oil that i use in the engine in the liftall pumps of these old tractors and i have never had one minute of trouble lifting anything with the hydraulics.

I'd try changing the oil before anything else. You will need to purge the whole system including cylinders. Use Hy-Tran or an equivalent.

These Liftall systems were made to use 30 wt nondetergent motor oil, and it gets thinner as it warms up. Detergent oil will foam when used in a hydraulic system, and foam displaces oil but won't pump very well.

The works good when cold thing might suggest oil that is too light. Your Liftall may also have worn pump gears or seals.
