I have two IHC planter units that I would like some more info on. There are some P&O lister planters that look similar to these in the '150 Years of International Harvester' by CH Wendel. All the casting part numbers have PO prefix. Is there any way to identify the year, model #, etc.? Also I would like to find some seed plates for black-eyed peas and red beans.

Yep, you've got yourself a set of what we called "drag boxes". I don't know the actual years of production or model, but they were in use in the late '40's and early 50's when I was a pup on the farm. I believe the standard planter plates of the time fit them. There were two styles of planter plates: the original size and a repair size which employed a "false bottom" to correct wear of the surface where the plates ran. Either should work for you, but you have to have the false bottom to use the repair plate. We planted cotton, maize, peas and corn with our standard lister planter. How many holes do you need? I might have a spare set.

Try the Wisconsin Historical Society-give them the parts numbers. They'll charge you a fee, but may be able to come up with those answers. They won't be able to help you with the plates, though, other than to give you parts numbers.
