I finally got a WF for my 666. It has new tie rods and will need to be adjusted once I get it on the tractor. I was told about 1/8" tow in is where it should be set. My question is where/how do I measure this? Thanks.

As you all have some IH wide front knowledge I would like to ask you a question. My I-544 wide front fixed front axle has a wobbley wheel. It is the left one (looking forward) and shakes about 5 degs both ways on center. The tractor drives straight, but that wheel is wobbling all over. I was gona pull the wheel and check the bearings. How much movement is normal?

No shake? Well that is not good. I will have to pull it all apart.

An 1/8th in may be ok if all your steering is new and tight. If not 1/4th in will work and not wear the tires to excess.

Allan, I dont own a 666 but procedure should be the same on all wide fronts. With tractor on level ground and wheels pointed straight, measure to center line height of tire. With white chaulk or other suitable marker mark both the front and back of both tires at the center line. I use a tape measure to measure from the center rib to the same spot on the opposite tire. Then go to the back side and take that measurement and adjust tierod ends accordingly, approximately 1/8" toe in so tractor tracks properly and this also prevents the frontend from wandering. Hope this helps.

GP,

Just got thru with the same chore.

Measure at the vertical center of the tire at the center of the tread (hub height)from one tire to the other. Then, you just toe 'er in to your spec.
