Okay,

This '51 H that I gave wayyyyy y tooooo much for has a brake squeeking....

I know the tractor is over 50 years old, but this "total restoration" is starting to smell just a little bit.

How tough is this brake job gonna be? I've never done one before.

Thanks,

Allan

Just pull the covers and throw on a new band?

Any gasket under the cover?

Is that all?

Thanks,

Allan

The old band brakes hold up real well. Before I'd get to excited about throwing new parts at it I'd take it apart, blow out all the dust, dry up the lining and brake drum with brake-clean. Make sure the oil seals aren't leaking. As long as the brakes work well that's what is important. Dad's '51 M's brakes always squealed too.

Okay, thanks.

I'll go take a look; but she sounds metal to metal to me.
