TA works a little, but slips. It works better if you engage it while stopped than if you shift on the go.If you engage it from a stop, it will initially work, then just sorta coast to a stop. When you engage it you hear a whining sound, sorta like a jet engine revving up. Linkage appears to be set according to specs.Any ideas on fixes without splitting the tractor?

Jim: Your TA is toast, don't think it is quite as simple as Hick makes it sound. At least it wasn't 35 years ago. Tractor has to be split in two places. A rebuilt TA will run you $400. to $800.

There are cheap fixes but if your going to all that work of splitting tractor, you may as well put in all. Depends on your cup of tea, splitting a tractor every two years is not one of mine.

You're probably going to have to do a split. I did see a 350 Farmall once where the T/A had gone dry over time, it slipped and whined. The owner refilled it with Hy-Tran and it eventualy recovered. If yours is full of fluid it probably has a worn ramp assembly, you have to split it to get to that one. Not a huge job, but it's still a pain.

I rebuild approx 15 t.a.'s per year And I generally ask the customer whether or not the tractor is used everyday or if it works in spells. For those who don't use the tractor alot you can get by with just just replacing what's wrong( ramp/seals/gaskets). On the other hand if the tractor gets used pretty hard I recommend a complete r&r such as reman ta flywheel/clutch/pressureplate/seals gaskets and of course the ramp. Now there is a heavy duty ramp avail. which has I believe 32 cam locks vs 8. If you don't ever want to split that tractor again this is the ramp to use. Also if you use the ta frequently.

Rebuilder: You make a very good point, no point in half fixing something you are going to work. I'll go one step further, no point in having it around if it cant do the work. Besides they are not that much fun to split.
