Hydraulic regulator valve location on Farmall 300

I want to take apart and clean the hydraulic's pressure regulator valve and safety valve on my 1956 Farmall 300 and I was wondering where these valves are located. The reason I wanted to check them, is that all of a sudden the hydraulics have started responding slowly. My tractor's hydraulic system in the past two years started making an occasional and unusual high pressure noise (sounds just like the noise a control valve makes when it automatically resets its self just when hitting it's maximum lift or lowering postion) for only just a second or two just after starting the engine. My hydraulics always worked good, But now all of a sudden they are responding very weakly and slowly since it has gotten colder out and also didn't make it's usual weird high pressure noise just upon starting of the engine. I changed the hydraulic oil and cleaned the filter and I think the pump is alright. Any information anyone could give me on the exact location of these valves would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Ray in Pa.

Hi Ray, we had a 300U back in the late 50s and when it started making noises and slow lifting it was time to clean the inlet screen on the input to the hydraulic pump. On the 300U it was located in the hydraulic reservoir under the seat and you had to take the complete top off the reservoir to clean the screen.
I don't know where the Farmall version had the hydraulic reservoir but someone in this forum will help you.

Good luck
JB

The valve (rectangular block) is in the hydraulic valve bank on the left side, mounted on the front of the steering support. Pick up a I&T shop manual for reference. You will have to remove the gas tank get at it.
