Hello all,

I have a 6v Farmall H that sits most of the time. When I try to start it there isn't enough battery. Can I jump start the tractor using the 12v battery in my pick-up. Where do I attach the jumper cables?

Randy

y jolt the 6V? IF YOUR GONNA KEEP THE TRACTOR A YEAR OR TWO BUY A 6V CHARGER AND START YOUR 6V RECHARGE 48 HOURS BEFORE YOUR BIG EVENT.
IF YOU INSIST ON THE 12V ABUSE, GRIND THE STARTER
FOR 10 SECONDS THEN LET THE POOR ABUSED STARTER
COOL DOWN FOR 10 MINUTES. THE WEAR AND TEAR WILL
BE MANAGEABLE THIS WAY. KEEP YOUR BULBS SWITHCED OFF. BE KIND TO YOUR WINDINGS AND SHELLAC.

Just a quick note / or reminder. In our very small town in the last three months we have had two farmers that had the tractor run them over because the tractor was in gear. It has been 20 years since we had the last one. They both lived to tell about it and both told me it happened very fast. Dave NE Iowa

Randy,
you can jump your H from a 12 volt source. I'd leave your truck running, as I've seen a hard starting 6 volt drain a 12 volt battery. Remove 1 cable from the battery in the tractor, and put the jumper to that. I'd recommend against jumping battery to battery, as I've heard of the 6 volt exploding in such cases.

Leave your lights off, 12 volts will pop the bulbs.

If you lived in MO you could just park it faceing down hill.Have had to do it a few times. I have had my tractor to some shows when I couldn't be there all day and kids love turning on the lights to see if they work.

you can start your tractor with a 12volt, it'll spin the starter over much faster, so I wouldn't grind on it for very long if it doesn't want to start, just make sure your lights are off because it will blow the bulbs.

IF IT WERE MY TRACTOR I WOULD NOT DO IT BUT I HAVE HEARD OF IT BEING DONE WHY NOT JUST PULL IT WITH YOUR TRUCK AND POP THE CLUTCH MUCH LESS DAMAGE OR BUY A 6 VOLT CHARGER.PAUL

Yes you can hook up one cable to a good ground positive or neg which ever your tractor is and the other one to the starter soliniod, don't start your truck and that should work. Hope this helps
