I'm new to Farmall M's. I'm going to do a ring job and valve job on the engine. A couple of questions. The tubing runing over the rocket arms, I assume that its a oil line has a small hole in it. Is this normal? Also, where is a good source to buy rings and gaskets and what should I expect to pay for them? Thanks, Pat

Pat, the tube is just what CNKS said it is...a vent tube. If you are going to replace the pistons I would go a litle futher and go with oversize sleeves and step pistons.

I agree,

If you are going to the trouble of breakin' her down, don't do it half way.

Just ringing an engine is nothing but a band-aid at best.

IMHO,

Allan

Line in valve cover is normal, as you say for lubrication. Check out engine befor eyou order anything. May have been supered at some point and have over size pistons and liners. If not you may want to go that way. Be sure to check rod bearings, mains and cam bearings especially if your oil pressure has been low at all. Good luck with it.

As I know it, the tube comes from the air breather to the rear of the head. Screws into the head. the tube on the inside connects to the pass throught point and runs inside the valve cover and back into the head towards the front of the motor. Then there is a connection that goes from the front of the head to the govenour. This tube in a sense is the crank case breather and the hole inside the valve cover helps that area breathe as well. No oil runs throught this tube. Does this sound correct?

That is a vent line, the hole is supposed to be there.
