I am looking at an IH 434 (gas). I know the IH 434 is British made (the original tag is on it with a serial # if B1353. It has an Allied loader in good shape. I have been told it is very similar to an IH 424 or IH 444 (both U.S. made).

Does anyone know the mfg of the gas engine? I was told it may be a Continental? Also, any knowledge of the engine and PTO HP? Lastly, what about general parts availabiltiy in the U.S.

Thanks!

We had a B414D then 434D and then 384D from 1962 thru 1994, all basically the same tractor but different sheet metal and all made in UK. They were good reliable tractors. The brakes did require yearly maintance and a search of the archives will reveal what is required to fix the brakes.

The gas engine in a 434 is an IH made engine (british), BC144. They are a good tractor, though the mech brakes are a problem.

My dad bought a 434 diesel about 10 years ago. The local case IH dealer refused to work on it because it was british?. And we couldn't keep brakes on it (and no it didn't have a loader), they were shutty mechanical brakes and my father would usually spend a whole day working on them only to have alittle brake for a day or so. After putting up with it for about 6 yrs we traded it, and don't miss it!. The 434 is a 40hp tractor.
