I have a farmall C with a zenth carbutor that is getting ready to be used as a paper weight . I have put a rebuild kit in it with a new rubber neddle, float does not seem to be leaking, float is set level. Tractor runs good but if you forget to turn off the fuel it will drip the tank dry. Thanks for any help Scotty

A couple of years ago I had this problem with my C. Re-built it and it still leaked. We had it setting on my brothers metal work bench over night. Discovered that there was a hairline crack in the body that you couldn't see until you knew it was there. All of the gas from the float chamber had leaked out onto the work bench. Just a thought.

I have this same problem with my Super C with a Carter and have absolutely no problem what so ever with my Marvel Schebler on my C. In fact on my C, I have yet to turn off the fuel for over 5 years!!! But if I leave the gas on with the Super C, it will start dripping within 10 minutes.

I have torn my carb apart about as many times ay it sounds like you have. Lowered the fuel level until it barley runs under load any longer and it still drips. What I am leaning towards not is the aluminum casting. I remember in the old days with Holley carbs on cars, they were sort of a yellow aluminum. If you polished off the yellow to make it look good, the gas would start weeping through the aluminum! I believe the same thing is going on here. I had the bowl sitting on the bench with gas in it while I was working on the carb one day and it started weeping through and creeping up the side wall and over the top of the casting. I believe one must seal the micro pores to keep the gas from weeping and creeping. So when I find a source for coating the carb, inside and out, I will try that and see if that helps. I will post the results when I get this done.

You might try lowering the float level slightly lower than recommended level to put more pressure on the neddle valve. Sometimes you can get away with this with out effecting the operation of the carb. If that doesn't work then I would get a new neddle valve

It is very likely that there is a bit of debris in the needle seat area.
Try: 1. installing an in-line filter 2. shut off the tank valve and run the engine until the carb is empty, remove the carb drain plug, and flush the debris out. 3. the float could be rubbing on the sides of the carb bowl; disassemble and check carefully for clearance. 4. just shut off the tank valve when you park; that is the safe thing to do anyhow.
Good luck; let us know how things turn out.

THANKS FOR THE INFO. I HAVE PUT A IN-LINE FILTER ON AND HAVE HAD THE CARB. APART TO CLEAN THE TRASH OUT AND TO PLAY WITH THE FLOAT LEVEL SO MUCH THAT I AM WEARING THE SCREWS OUT TAKEN THIS THING APART SO MUCH. I AM DETERMINE TO FIX THE THING CAUSE IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ANY ROCKET SCINECE BUT APPARENTLY I AIN'T GOT THE BRAIN POWER TO FIGURE IT OUT, SO ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE ME I DO THANK YOU. THE FLOAT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE HITTING THE BOWL. THE BOWL HAS A DRAIN PLUG IN THE FRONT OF IT, DOES IT SUPPOSE TO HAVE A PLUG OR A ADJUSTABLE HIGH SPEED VALUE IN PLACE OF THE PLUG. I THINK THIS VALUE COULD CONTROL THE FUEL FLOW TO THE BOWL. DOES THIS SOUND LIKE IT COULD BE A PROBLEM ? THANKS FOR YOUR TIME... SCOTTY

The adjustable high speed screw was only used on tractors that used kerosine or distillate. It was not normally part of the gasoline set up. I don't think that would have any to do with the carburetor dripping. If you have the float level set correctly, the float does not have a hole in it, and the needle valve is seating the only thing left is that the float must be catching somehow so that it can't push the needle valve up. My Farmall C does this if I run the carb dry by turning off the gas before I shut it off. The float of course falls all the way down when I do that. Next time I turn the gas on, it pours out. Never been able to figure it out, but a few sharp taps to the side of the carb and the flow stops which means the float has become unstuck and shuts off the flow.

The float needle seat isn't closeing tight for some reason. Its a common problem with the old tractors, I have two or three that do that, you can try to get it to seat like it should or remember to turn off the gas. Hope this helps
