I have my Farmall A split and need to remove the flywheel so I can replace the frost plug in the back of the block. Can't find any instructions on how to remove the flywheel, does anyone have any words of wisdom? Also, there seems to be some green mossy looking stuff in the hole where the frost plug was, does this have any significance. Sure could use the help.

After removing the flywheel take off the lower water outlet on the front of the engine and clean out that portion of the block with air and using a piece of 1/4 rod or something that will reach thru and get all the loose crud that has built up in that area. Using a lite you will be able to see holes at the top of this passage around the sleeve clean this area good as the four holes can get plugged with crud stopping good water flow thru the block.

Sounds like a good time to flush the engine water jacket out too.

Mine came off easily enough after removing the 4 bolts and 2 bolt retainers. Then I just pulled it away from the engine, being careful to not drop it as it is quite heavy. If yours is stuck because of rust then you might have to use a couple of flat pry bars or use some longer bolts as mentioned to use as pullers.

Remove bolts from flywheel. There should be some threaded holes in the flywheel that you can install the bolts in to act as jacks, to jack it away from the engine... The moss is probably just that, or antifreeze colored grease.
