What kind of alternator would you use to avoid cutting a hole in the hood? Also would you have to have a 12v starter? New Lights?

Use alternator like in picture above. Use the pulley off the generator you will need to drill and tap for the bolt to hold pulley on. This way the belt can be tighted just like the gen. I have one on my super h works finer than frog hair. No cutting the hood nothing.

yes you can. link shows how i have done several. this pic is from a "H" i did in 84. never have had a problem with it. idler pulley lets you 1) place alternator against engine 2) adjust belt used a delco alternator. wade

The Delco one wire alternator works the best. It's a snug fit, with a smaller belt, but I managed to cram one in, but it has to be put on the belt first, then mount the bolts. No tightener was required, but mounted anyway, cuz sooner or later the belt will stretch a little

If you use a 12 volt generator, it should fit like the original. I cannot speak for an alternator. The are some smaller ones out there that would work, I am sure. Others who have converted an H can speak more on how well an alternator fits. Lights? Yes, you really need to either disconnect them, or switch to 12 volt lamps. Your 6 volt starter will work just fine, but avoid prolonged periods of cranking without giving the starter time to cool down.

electric motors get hotter with low voltage than high, and it'll spin fast enough you shouldn't have to worry about prolonged cranking
