I HAVE A RUNNING MD ENGINE I MIGHT SELL. REAR MAIN LEAKS REAL BAD WAS THE REASON FOR NOT RUNNING THE TRACTOR ANY MORE.HAS DISTRIBUTOR, AND STARTS ON GAS , RUNS ON DIESEL. LIKE IT SHOULD.PROBABLY NEEDS REBUILDING BUT DOES RUN.NO CRACK IN HEAD OR BLOCK THAT IS APPEARENT.

Try Steel Wheel Ranch (785) 548-7437 and see if he has a block for you.

I agree you should restore it, but be careful how you go about it. I have seen about $10K go into one of these, but about everything that could have been bad on it, was. My suggestion would be to find another tractor with a good engine and bad something else, and make a good one from the 2. I have (at least) one of each the 5 gas start diesel series, and would part with most any of them for less than the money I saw go into the $10K tractor. Good luck.

I went through the process of rebuilding a 1951 MD. I completely rebuilt the engine as well as most of the rest of the tractor. It wasn't a cheap restoration. I started out with a tractor that had a cracked block as well and I ended up getting a used block that was out of a td-6 bulldozer. It is the same block. I didn't really cut any corners and I have quite a bit of money in it. It was a fun project for me even though it was expensive. I would get another one of the start on gas diesels if I had the money. It is a fun tractor to operate and it can be funny to see people's faces when they see a diesel engine with a carburetor, spark plugs and magneto.

I'd try find a new block and crankshaft? and rebuild it. Don't really see too many Super MDs.. but the rebuild will be expensive..

I heard that the bearings may be the hardest parts to come by, good luck, they were a neat tractor to be around. My 2 cents.
