Looking to buy a Super M to restore. I have found a 53 but owners says needs two gears replaced in transmission. I have no experience with tractor trans..Is this a repair that a backyard mechanic should attempt. Thanks...

I think it is a good project for a backyard mechanic to take on. The biggest problem is that the pieces are heavy and a shop crane is a very good thing to have available when working on it. A service manual and parts manual are a big help too.

another good thing is to take the gears out one at a time, number them in order with white-out. also line them up in order and oriented, as a safety backup, and if you've got help dont let them get ahead of you, we found out the hard way on our 1066. SM is a lot simpler though
