Trying to buy a gift for a friend with a Farmall tractor and finding there are two descriptions - International Harvester and McCormick. Are they different tractors? Thanks.

Wheatland (standard) tractors were McCormick Deering, in 1949 or so as Guy Fay said above, the Deering was dropped, thus they were McCormick. The Farmall tractors (row crop) were first McCormick Deering Farmall, then IH McCormick Deering Farmall (mid-forties, I think), then IH McCormick Farmall. Eventually, the Farmall name was dropped, and they all became International, regardless of the configuration. Prior to Farmall being dropped, both International and Farmall names were used depending on the tractor and configuration. Confused? Don't ask when all this took place!

IH and McCormick are the same tractors. Some venders use one name, some the other. Originally they were called McCormick Farmall, later IH McCormick farmall.

Thanks. This helps a lot. Guess I can't go wrong as long as it is a Farmall.

McCormick and Farmall are both brand names belonging to the International Harvester Company.
They are sometimes used together on tractors. What model and year is your friend's tractor?
