My old man recently acquired a 560 farmall
runs great, but none of the hydraulics work
& steering is hard as heck. Can anybody tell me where the hydraulic pump is located & should this tractor have power
steering. I don't know the year of the
tractor.

The Hydraulic pump is behind the squarish cover on the left side of the bell housing/flywheel housing. There should be a hose comming off this cover that goes up to the base of the dash/steering wheel support frame and a small steel line going towards the front of the tractor. Hose is maybe 18 inches long and maybe 3/4 inch diameter. The selective control valves are fed by this hose and the power steering system by the steel line. There are actually two pumps behind the cover with the power steering pump piggybacked onto the main hydraulic pump. There is a common suction for both pumps. There are two common places for the pumps to suck air instead of oil. One is the short tube that connects the pump to the passage in the bell housing and the other is a rubber packing between the transmission housing and the bell housing. Draining the transmission oil and removing the square cover will get you at the the pumps, splitting the tractor between the transmission and the bell housing will get you at the second. If it is an air leak, the oil should be milky with air bubbles. good luck

Try changing the hydraulic filter, located inside an oblong shaped cover on the right side of the tractor between the bell housing and the brake pedals. That's where I would start.

Also pull the drain plug on the bottom of the transmission case and if water comes out like more than a tea cup. change the fluid approx. 15 gals. You did check the fluid level to start with ?
