Went to work on my M engine and I pressed out the old pin bushings, pushed in the new. All went well, but the new pins won't fit in the bushings. The bushings, pins and pistons came in the same kit. Do I have to reem them out to fit? Thanks

You can hone them yourself, but with only a .0002-.0004 clearance, it might be a little difficult to get correct. The last ones I had done for a 350 cost $35 total.

Great info folks, looks like I'll be on the phone tomorrow looking for a machine shop. I have too much invested to skimp out now. Thanks again!!!

Posted this same question on this site last week and received helpful info. Had bushings fitted at a machine shop (for a 400) and it was 60 bucks plus tax.

Fred,

I agree with many of the others here...

Take those things to a machine shop and have them fit to size. They have to be reamed individually.

These shops have the correct bits to insure that the lube clearances are correct.

My 2 cents,

Allan

You can hone them but boring is the best way that way the pin is in line with the rod bearing othe wise the piston may not be in line with the cylinder bore.

Fred, the best bet is to take them to an engine rebuilding shoop and have them reamed. It's not expensive and they will do the job right!

Fred, Someone just asked this question recently, but you need to fit the pins to the bushings. I always take mine to the local NAPA shop and they fit each pin to each respective rod bushing. Roger

I haven't done this yet but Spencer Yost in his book on rebuilding tractor engines says that sometimes you have to hone the bushings to fit the pins. He suggested using a brake hone.
