I am restoring a 40 B and want to put a switch on the starter so my young son will not be able to start it just by pushing the starter. Anyone have any ideas where to put one that is easy to get to by someone who knows where it is . Thanks in advance.

Easiest is to just disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Key for that is a 1/2 inch box end or combination wrench. If you have a cover on your battery box, you can disconnect the ground cable where it is attached to the tractor chassis. If you want to be double sure, just take the ground cable off completely and put it in a safe place.

Here's what you need. I agree...you can teach your own kids, but you can't teach their friends, and other enquiring minds.

it is time for him to know what not to do on the tractor. Inever had any problems with three of them. Will you also put one on your car?

I plan on teaching him what not to do on a tractor but right now he is only 2 and he loves to climb on the tractors. He also picks up on how dad makes things work by watching me. Thanks

My sentiments exactly. This world is becoming more and more of the mindset that we have to protect us from ourselves instead of teaching us responsibility.

I have seen some battery cable switches in a specialty automotive catalog the other day. It was intended to be an anti-theft device I think, but should work on a tractor. I have wanted to put something like that on my tractors when I take them to the local fall festival when I have kids climbing on my Farmalls. One time one of the kids stepped on the starter switch and the tractor moved ahead a few inches. I disconnected the lever after that or the battery cable. Roger

I just put a key switch in line on mine for the same reason. I think I had to buy a switch that worked in reverse. When key is off mag is grounded. Had some good help from Bob M on the wiring order.

I thought of doing that but I want to kill the battery completely so if it was in gear it would not even turn over. Also my B doesn't have a kill switch, it has a cable to the mag. to kill it. Thanks again.

Get yourself a blade swithch and put it in the poaitive battery cable line. By disengaging the switch you remove all power coming from the battery. Less than 10 bucks and simple. Any parts house will have one.

That would be just great for a kid to get fingers pinched.
