i am trying to get the old (refering to my IH manual for proper terms) brake bands out of my brake housings.

left side is out. the brake band connection pins slid right out.

the right side is stuck. the connection pins won't move.

QUESTION: what is the proper way to remove the brake bands from the housing?

can the "brake band lever" be removed? (it is the rod with the "woodruff key").

thoughts?

Be sure to note which way the lever is pointing before removal.
You will have to remove a small woodruff key before the shaft can be removed.
Lube the shaft & pins with a small amount of grease when reassembling.

Bill I'm sitting here looking at the diagrams for H and M brakes along with the parts numbers. Removing the brake band lever should let the brake band lever shaft slide out of the brake pan, thus releasing your brake band. You can then remove the brake band connection pins and the band will be free of the shaft. The brake band levers have a brass bushing that inserts into the pan as well as one that inserts into the tractor. If these are worn you may as well replace them, Case I-H can still get them but they are pricey..$10 for a package of two. Good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario
