I just got back from the National FFA convention in Louisville, KY. It was a lot of fun. It's great to see 45,000 other kids wearing the blue corduroy jacket. This is just a small amount of the nations FFA members. I did get to see and talk about old red iron while i was there. The NATPA had a booth with a M and Chevron lubricants had a restored M which was a winner of its tractor restoration contest which I am going to enter next year. Today's FFA is Tomorrow's leaders.

I wish I went this year. I've gone three years in a row and I'm President of my FFA chapter this year and my girlfriend went, but I am also Captain of the football team and we made the playoffs. Won our Tuesday night game 46-45 in double overtime, but lost our Saturday game 31-19, even though we dropped an opportunity 4th and inches at the goal line to make it 26-26 and then threw an interception in the endzone that, if we would've scored on 4th and inches, would have put us in the lead. They took the interception possesion and turned it into the drive to seal the game. I would've missed both games if I went to Kentucky, but it was the hardest decision I've made this year. I'll probably go next year since I am still elgible. Good times.

Yeah, I was one of 10 that helped restore that M at the chevron booth.

FFA, in short, is the organization for high school agricultural education students. It is AKA the Future Farmers of America, though "Future Farmers" hasn't been used officially since 1988. It is the premier youth leadership organization with over 450,000 members throughout the US.

Just got back from Louisville Saturday night, had two of my students to get their American FFA Degree.

FFA was dying at that time, I was in FFA 1954 to 1960 when only boys were allowed in it. I am glad they were smart enought to change with the times. When I was in school 2/3 of the boys took Ag.and were in FFA I just ask my grand daughter she said proably 1/4 of the students took it now. Some where in the 80's our school was in financial diffculty, and Ag. was one of the things on the possable hit list.

I was also at the convention just last week. It was very easy to lose your chapter in the sea of blue coats. I saw the M that chevron had. I am to going to enter my tractor in the contest. I have a 44 farmall H tractor. what kind do you have and going to enter.

I'm glad you got to go to the convention Adam. I never did get to go to it even though it was in Kansas City, Mo., and I live in Ash Grove, Mo 3hrs away. I did show a fat calf at the Ameican Royal in 1958 and the convention was going on then. Some of us stood out side the hall and listened to Earnie Kovaks speak. you may have to ask your Granddad who he was. He had some Nat. Officers after him because he made a comment about our funny looking jackets. I will be 62 on the 27th of this month, and my jacket is hanging in the base ment somewhere I proably couldn't get my arm down the sleeve very far.

I remember going to that when I was in FFA, only it was in Kansas City then. We sure had fun at that. FFA is a good organization. I hope future generations keep the FFA wheel's turning. I sure hate to see family farm numbers going down and corporate farming taking a bigger bite. I hope FFA membership is not going down. I think it has at our local chapter. Our local school was even considering dropping shop class as a result of budget cuts. Seems to be fewer farm kids these days and even they seem to take less interest in farming. Glad to here from somebody that takes an interest in FFA and old red iron.

I to went to the FFA convention in'58-'59 school year. It was held in Kansas City, what a experience. Saw country singer LeRoy VanDyke perform, I believe, was the "Auctioner"song.
