Got the loader and cab off of the 1466, and has quite a bit of power. I was thinking of pulling in the farm stock. Am planning to do just weight of tractor at moment, not load it up with weights. Does anyone know what gear to be in, or ever heard what other people pull in even with a 9 or 1066 series. Also, what is the MAX RPM for an engine like that, it can run nice and smooth at full with lever all the way to the right, with no turn up. Although the tack quits and flies completely horizontal when reaching 2400.

i've pulled my 1456 a little in 5mph paced class, 11500#, hard track. i started out using low 4, spun out. next time, hi 1, spun out again. last time i pulled it in hi2 and used the ta back until i got most of the way to where the sled was stopping tractors, then pushed it ahead and hit throttle. did the best that way.i only take it to 1 pull that i can drive to- the 14 is too heavy for my trailer to go farther away. it is stock hp.

It depends on the local tractor pulling organization. Some of them enforce a speed limit for pure stock. You would then probably have to pull anywhere from 4th-low to 1st-high. Also some them have rpm limits of factory plus a certain percentage. Some are just a flat 3,000 rpm max with no deviation. As far as maximum rpm it depends on how well balanced the engine is. A smooth running motor can run 3,500+. Depends also on the condition of the fuel pump. The Model 100 can be set up quite a bit. A buddy has a 1466 that was balanced when it was overhauled. He has it backed off to the 250 hp range for farming. A bit more when he goes pulling. He has a cab on it with fluid in the tires. He pulls it in the 15,500 and 18,000 lb classes. He has another 1466 without the cab and no fluid. He pulls that one in the 11,500 and 13,500 lb classes. He puts a Model 100 with 11 mm plungers in that one. He has been known to pull it in 3rd-high at pulls where they are a little lax on the rules. Hardest part is getting the clutch to hook up. The 14's are good pulling tractors and a lot can be done with them. Just depends on how much money you want to spend. Some times it is the expense of setting them up to pull but the repairs that can happen. A stock 1466 wouldn't be worked any harder than it would pulling a 20' tandem disk or a 5/6 bottom plow.

He may have it at 250 hp but not for long because the spider gears in the rearend will go out soon if he tugs it hard in the feild
I have replaced many spider gears in the 1466 and 1486.
About 200 is where i would leave it at

we have a 1066, dyno op. cut the dyno out at 170, clutches started slipping governors hadn't kicked in yet, was a local pullers baby, dealer we bought it used from claimed they turned it down about halfway it was between 200-250 hp, it being a little light definitely saves its rearend, split a wheel hub the one time we weighted the front end for plowing.
