Don't know if any of you watch the TV show "Friends" on Thursday nights on NBC but something caught my eye on last night's show. In a scene in Chandler and Monica's apartment there was a shot where you could see a little bit of the refrigerator behind one of the characters. There was a round logo that was sort of small but looked kind of familiar. In another shot you could see right on the face of the refrigerator was a red panel that said "International Harvester" on it. The round logo was the old IH logo.

Here is a URL for a picture of the set. You can see the fridge but not close enough to read anything it.

I work for my family's appliance business, and we hauled a 1939 IH chest freezer out of this old couple's basement two summers ago. Heaviest thing I may have ever handled without power equipment, and I have rolled round bales when bedding and feeding cattle. We figure the sucker probably weighed 1000 pounds, and still ran like a charm. The decision to get rid of it was simply because newer would be and is MUCH more energy efficient. Awesome to see that sucker, knowing it was more than 60 years old, was IH, and had never been repaired. I'm afraid it was probably junked, too. Oh well. The 1952 IH refridgerator/freezer in our barn still works, too, so I know IH appliances were just as tough as their tractors from that era.

Thanks for posting. I'd heard of it in the past, but never seen it, as I don't like that show.

I'm on an e-mail Scout digest, and IH sightings are always being posted.

My wife and I also spotted the International Harvester refrigerator on "Friends." I'm familiar with them because my uncle and aunt owned an IH refrigerator back in the '50s and '60s. If I remember correctly, they were built as tough and durable as their tractors.

I got a hold of an old freezer IH compressor a couple years back and made a shop compressor from it. I gave it to a friend and he uses it in his shop. I have an old IH hand crank corn sheller that still works good too. IH was tough.
