A Good Weekend with the H

Since I live in town I don't get too much of a chance to do any real work with my H, but maybe that's all about to change. A few weeks ago I got hooked up with an antique power association here in Colorado. They do a lot of the farm work on one of the nature preserves here in the area and I was able to take the H out there Saturday. They have quite a large pumpkin patch that was done for the year and they needed somebody to disc the old vines and weeds up. This was the first time in probably 30 or 25 years that I had done any work on a tractor other than a little mowing and stuff like that but it comes back pretty easy. I had the H hooked to an old 7 or 8 foot drag-type tandem disc. The first time over the ground, I pulled it in third cause the ground was so rough. After I got over the patch once, I decided that it probably needed to be gone over again, so I started over it on the diagonal. This time over, the ground was quite a bit smoother and the disc was going in almost to the axles. I was almost sorry to get finished. The wife said I still had a grin on my face hours later that evening. Probably the most fun I've had in quite a while. It really felt good to get back on the tractor and do some real work with her. The old H performed flawlessly all day and we are both ready to go back and do some more work. Sorry for the long rambling post but just had to tell somebody about all the fun I had. Larry

Going to Ohio next week to pick up a 41 H I bought earlier in September. One of its first jobs will be to pull a wagon full of my wifes 6-8 grade students on a hayride around the farm. ETA for getting this H home to Alabama will be Saturday night Nov 8th. I know what I will be doing on the 9th, I feel like a kid at Christmas. Its been about 45 years since I had a H out in a field.

An Ohio "H" going to Georgia. This Buckeye hopes it treats you well. Enjoy it and the hayride. JT

And this be the place to tell such things Larry. Most of us have had a similiar event that we can savor but can barely explain. Thanks for sharing. Dick Davis

I would just love to do what you did Larry. I am just aching to get my H,Super H and A john deere to the field and pull them like we used to. If the farmers would have just one or two days for these tractors they could get a lot of work done for free.

I agree, Rich. I love running grandpa's old H. Neighbor thinks I'm nuts. What does he know! :D I disked the yard at the farm after the house was torn down, and I need to do it again, It's still pretty rough. But have to wait for a weekend with no rain, as I live an hour away and unfortunately have to go to work everyday.
