I recently purchased a 1954 Super M Farmall and it runs so rich that it puts gasoline in the crankcase. I adjusted the main screw acording to the manual's specifications and it still runs way too rich. The float is not stuck, it doesn't leak gas. I know this is bad but I don't know how to fix it. Any suggestions?

Have you checked your Air Cleaner assembly. The inlet pipe might be partially plugged. Take the bottom off and look down thru it from the top.I've had to soak the whole assemblies in a parts cleaner to clean them out. Good Luck!!!!!

I do not have a Super M manual, but the main jet needle on the Super H carb is set 5 turns out for max power, it can be turned in (lean) for light loads. If your Super M manual says to turn it out a certain number of turns, ignore that. With the engine warm and at wide open throttle, turn the main screw in until it runs rough, then back out about a quarter turn. You may have to open it some more if the engine tends to miss under load (too lean). If the engine speed does not change when you have the screw turned in almost all the way, you need a new needle and seat. The malfunctioning thermostat may have an effect in cold weather, but not in October, unless you are in Canada or Alaska.

Check your thermostat. If the engine is running cold the gasoline vapor in the intake manifold will condense back to liquid when they come in contact with a cold manifold or cylinder wall and run down the cylinder walls past the rings and into the crankcase.
