I posted this question the other day--it's already on page 2 and no one answered. Maybe it's a dumb question?? Here's the post over--sorry for the re-run:

I'm about to build a Cub engine from some salvaged parts. I just heard that the C60 blocks (early/later) used different pistons. I haven't read about this in any of my reference books. Can anyone shed some light on this? I'm assuming that the wrist pin-to-crown distance must be a little different. Don't want to bang pistons into the head or anything or have too low compression if the pistons are too "short".

No, not enough room for .090 over. .040 is pushing it.

A few years ago I bought oversize aluminum Cub pistons from Case/IH. Can't remember if they were 60 or 90.

There are a number of differences in pistons, heads, crankshaft bearing mounting, manifold, etc. Do you have a parts manual?

Kevin, I've never heard of pistons with diffferent compression heights being used in a C-60...but I don't have my TC-37 Cub parts book handy, so at the moment I can't give you a definite answer. But maybe someone else can.

(At one time, the old M&W Gear Co. made pistons fro a Cub in .090 oversize...in combination with a power unit governor [2200 rpm vs. 1800 in the tractor version] and some judicious carb jet drilling, you might build a bear of a Cub, if you can find some of these older parts.)

I haven't measured the bores yet to see what size pistons I'll need, but the block I have doesn't have a ridge in the bores--was hoping it was standard bore. Is there enough material in the casting to go .090" on the overbore? I get nervous when I go .060" on my truck engines.

Evidently there was enough material to go .090 on THAT particular one...it's still running, BTW, after about 40 years on the rebuild...
