Hello,

I'm restoring a Farmall C, and I need to put in new gear-greese in the rear end. What is the best way to clean it before I do so?

On the C, removing the PTO assembly willnot give full access to the transmission. The mounting bolts are the same as the A, but there is not a full sized hole there, only small openings for the shaft, etc. I think best would be to let it drain for at least 24 hours and then refill with gear oil. If what comes out looks really bad, then do it again in a month or two. If you do the diesel fuel flush, I'd suggest jacking up the tractor and running it that way to agitate. No load on the bearings and less chance of any damage that way.

I have an a ( and I took the entire p.t.o assembly off of the back of the tractor. THis gives you full acsess to the trans caseing.

Hi Sam,

This is probably the absolute "wrong" way to do it, but it worked for me.

I drained all the old oil out, put the plug back in and filled the rear end up to the correct level with diesel fuel.

Drove the tractor down to the end of the driveway and back and then drained it again. I let it set for an hour to "drip dry" and then put in the correct oil.

Worked pretty slick.

Allan
