I went to an auction today, they sold a H and a M. They both had a different kind of grease cap on the front wheels. It had a button or knob that looked like it was for some sort of attachment. I had not seen these before, probally just hadn't payed attention. What are they used for? Just curiuos, WB.

Those are for the front snoot of an IH 24 picker on an H and on the M it would either be for a 24 or a 2ME picker. I see quite a few of those here in SW Ia.

I think the 2M picker had that style of center snoot too. The 2M-H and 2M-HD didn't, They raised up high enough the front wheels could turn stop-to-stop without the snoot having to turn.

I'm not 100% sure. But I think they were for mounted corn pickers or cultivators. They turn the front snout on the corn picker. Just my thought Don

You are correct, it is for the snout on the mounted picker, the snout hooks into them so that when you turn, the snout turns with you.

Thanks for the info! It's odd that they would have them on both tractors. No picker in sight, must have traded it off on the 403 that was in the woods! WB.
