I converted my super M about a year ago. I used a gm alternator & used the conversion diagram that I found on this site with the resistor & diode. THE BEST THING I EVER DID TO IT. Starts much quicker/easier even when its cold. No more replacing dead 6 volt batteries & voltage regulators. I used a piece of allthread in the bottom bracket & it worked great.

Either use a Delco CS-121 or a smaller Nippondenso alternator. The CS-121 can be found under the hood of many smaller later-80s to early 90s GM cars. A smaller Nippondenso can be found in a junkyard under the hood of a mid-80's Toyota Corolla. These alternators are smaller than the 10SI.

Yes . Use a gm alternator with the built in regulator. Turn the gen bracket over so that it is installed up side down and bolt the alternator to the front tab with a spacer to line up the belt. It will just fit under the hood. You can use the original belt. The alternator needs to have the front part rotated so that the wires come out the top so they dont hit the hood. You may want an alternator shop to do that for you.
