I installed a belt pulley unit on my 400. I can't find anywhere in the IT manual or Owner's manual the quantity of gear oil to add to the unit. Want to do this before the fuel tank goes back in. Thanks

There is a small sump at the belt pulley bearings and gears. The belt pulley gets lube from the transmission and over flows back to the transmission. However when the pulley is first installed, the sump up there is empty, so a filler plug is there to put in some oil so that the pulley mechanism does not run dry until oil gets up there from down below. Put in a quart or so of Hy Tran. Any excess will just overflow to the transmission.

Bill,

The belt pulley gearbox gets its lube from the transmission. It would be good to pour some hy-tran in it since it has been off of the tractor to insure that the lube is present when first used.

Hope this helps, Bob

Thanks Bob. I wonder why the filler plug is present?
