Bought a 606 with front loader and backhoe. Dosen't run, loader is down along with the outriggers and hoe. How do I transport this thing? I was quoted $27.50/hr plus $2.00 per mile. Distance is about 100 miles round trip. Is this reasonable, is there any thing I can do to cut down on loading time? Please offer any advice and suggestions. Thanks

John, On my JD backhoe I was able to crank the engine with the starter and get the hoe to raise, the outrigers up and the front blade up. It was pretty simple and they raised quick enough that I didn't have to crank too much and hurt the starter. I put jumper cables on the battery to my truck cause the battery was dead. Once everything was up I could tow it easy. I only had to go across the street though. At least you could get it loaded easier.

Even the thieving scoundrels at my local dealer (FNH, they'll never look at this board) only charge a dollar a mile. But that is both ways.
However you get the parts to come up, count on having to chain them up; on mine, even running, a couple of cylinders will drift down.
Be careful.

It's high I think. Of course, Bob Bolin Towing in St. Louis charges between $80 & $100 an hour shop door to shop door for their big rig wreckers. But then, they do a lot of vehicle recovery where they need multiple trucks & the trucks sit at the job site for an hour or 2.

The $2.00/ mile is a little steep, $1.50 is more like it; mileage is usually quoted as loaded miles, so that's only $100. Haven't heard of an hourly charge, unless there is a lot of work loading it.

$27.50 and $200. Sounds like rape to me. Do you get some vaseline first. If you were in north Mo. I'd move it for you for $100 .

Get you another tractor and plug a hose in the remote outlet and connect it to the pressure line at the pump or at the control valve on the disabled one. Only operate the remote on the running tractor at the same time the levers are pulled on the non worker or all you will do is fill it's resevoir. I did this on a 530 case tlb a couple years ago ,I used a H farmall with a belly pump. You will have to get some extra hyd fluid for the donor tractor 5 gal should get it up . The come a long way is hard, I tried that and gave up after an hour or so.

Price sounds high to me, but I've got limited experience. You might post over on the hauling schedule on the left, and see if anyone could handle it for you. Good luck.

Disconnect the hydraulic hoses from the cylinders, not all of them, just one per cylinder. This should allow you to elevate the loader and booms, etc, with a jack or something similar. I think a better Idea might be to bring in another tractor, and plug the hydraulics into it, that way everything should stay in the up position when you disconnect.
$27.50 per hour plus $2.00 a mile sounds kind of like highway robbery to me.
