This is going to sound crazy but that unpainted tractor went for 3425 dollars. I'm not sure if they were fighting over it or if it was as previuosly posted, a couple of fellows showing off their wads of cash but that is one pricey cub. Possibly there was some emotional connection.

Was this an estate auction? Or a retirement auction? In either case, there probably was family members who wanted that tractor, and if that was the case, you can forget buying anything at a reasonable price. On the other hand, if they kept the tractor in the family, more power to them.

And I've seen it go the other way too when you are at a sale and things are going cheap people just stop bidding.

I went to a small auction in upstate NY last thursday. An old farmer who had a hedgrow of 60's vintage farm machinery. Stuff was bent and worn bad. There was a NH 256 hayrake I thought would go cheap. The tires were dry rotted, and the frame was so pitted that there wasn't a speck of paint left. It went for 750 dollars. I figured my limit at 200 bucks.

Go figure
Take Care
Steve

Did everything else at the auction go high? I have been at farm auctions where one thing goes way high, and everyone starts paying too much for stuff. Apparently overspending is contagious or something!

Last year I was at an auction where everything brought about twice what it was worth. I saw a Deere 6620 combine that was ready for the scrap heap bring 26K. The fools just kept bidding. I tried to buy the new 915 flex head that was on the heap of junk, when they sold the heads seperately but the guy who had already paid three times what the combine was worth was so determined to get both heads I think he would have paid anything for them.

After it sold, he came up to me and said. "Thanks a lot you F-ing SOB I didn't want to pay that much for it." I replied, "Well nobody was holding a gun on you, you could have stopped bidding at any time" He mumbled something about my ancestry and walked off.

I could have easily decked him but dad was with me so I refained from giving him the a$$kicking he deserved.

The guy who sold the equipment was bankrupt and his creditors were forcing him to sell out. He made so much $$$ on the sale of his old worn out equipment that he paid off all of his creditors and took the remaining cash and went and bought some newer, larger equipment, and kept right on farming.

I guess he got the last laugh!

Should have told him you didn't want the header at all. You just wanted to see how dumb he really was, and he paid for the pleasure.
