Hi, Normally, caruberators have various circuits in them. A circuit for the idle, a circuit for the cross-over from idle to high speed, a circuit for the high speed, a circuit for the power pull. Now, having said all that, two strokers are a different kettle of fish entirely. They don't play by the rules as we think of them for four strokers. On the lad's engine: Check to make sure that it does not have a 'carboned up' restriction in the exhaust. This is a prime area of the symptom that you describe. If too much oil has been used in the fuel mix for a long period of time, this extra burnt oil deposits build up in the exhaust sysem and chokes it off. Also, depending on the engine, some have what is called "reed valves". These are nothing more than a "flutter" valve affair and can sometimes cause you grief. However, if the engine seems to sound and run alright at the lower rpms, I kinda doubt that this is your problem area. Another thing to check is the mag if it is so equipped. Check the air gap between the magnet and the pickup coil. The wrong air gap would be the same effect as 'wrong timing' in other ignition systems. Just a thought or two, Allan
