hi all, i recently bought a 706 D with clamshell fenders. with winter coming i think it might be alot nicer to use this tractor with a cab. i was wondering cabs from what other tractors will fit the 706. also, ive heard year around cabs arent as good. also what should i expect to pay for a cab. thanks

Check tractor salvage yards, farm equipment dealerships, and the classified ads in your local farm newspaper. There are millions of good used aftermarket cabs out there that you can buy for under $200. Popular brands are Hiniker and Year-a-Round. A cab off of any 06, 26, or 56 series tractor will work the best. If it is off of anything other than a 706, it will need minor modifications, because the 26 and 56 series had a wider operator's platform, and anything 806 and bigger has taller hoods. I bet you could even make a factory 66 series red cab fit. If I was to reccomend a cab, I would say the IH factory cab used on 26, 56, and early 66 series. Talk to your local Case-IH dealer, see if they can give you the name of a company that reconditions IH cabs.

Nate,
I put a cab from a 1466 onto my 460. It bolted right up to my axle and frame/rail. It is a little big for the tractor but when I'm snowblowing and the wind is gusting to 50 mph I don't mind. I did have to cut out the tin that sloped under the seat. The seats on the 1466 must be ahead of the rear axle. I replaced the tin with some plywood around the seat and it looks and works great. Gives me a little storage area to keep chains, pins, tools or whatever in.
I bought mine in Northern Maine and paid $250 at an auction. One of the doors was twisted and the glass was brokrn out of the door and the rear window was missing. It does have an AC unit mounted on top but the AC pump was left on the tractor it was taken off from. Usually they go for $500-$1000 in good condition. I can send you pictures of my setup if you find something comparable and want to see it.

stan,
could you send me the pictures, i would really be interested in seeing how it worked out. i was wondering if it would be possible to run an ac pump with an electric motor, and put the condensor on top of the cab like jd's did in the 60s and 70s. thanks for the help.

I'll try and get some pictures in the next few days and send them. The 1466 cabs had everything for the AC mounted on top of the cab hanging over the back end. All that was on the tractor was the AC pump. That one for $150 sounds like a good deal.
